Welcome to the May edition of the Scio Flyers Flight Log! The 2026 season is officially underway. Thanks to everyone who braved the April rain to get our field and canopy ready for action! We kick off this month with some massive news: our UAS4STEM team has officially qualified for the National Championships in Oshkosh this July! In this issue, we also celebrate the return of our monthly Hot Dog & Hamburger nights, share our recent feature in the Scio Township newsletter, and open up submissions for our next "From the Hangar" member showcase.
The Scio Flyers UAS4STEM team qualified for the National Championships in Oshkosh this summer. Congratulations to our student pilots and engineers on this incredible milestone!
Over the past several months, the team has worked tirelessly—mastering everything from complex circuit assembly and soldering to programming autonomous flight paths. Every member also successfully navigated the rigorous AMA Ground School requirements to prepare for the competition.
All of that hard work culminated in the preliminary competition on April 24, where the team's technical skill and "safety-first" culture really stood out to the judges. Their performance has earned them a spot to compete at the championships from July 19 through July 22, 2026.
We want to thank our mentors, parents, sponsors, and the entire Scio Flyers membership for the support that makes this achievement possible!
(Re-)introducing Hot Dog & Hamburger nights! Give your kitchen/grill a break and join us for hot dogs and hamburgers once a month.
We kicked things off on Wednesday, May 20. Future 🌭🍔 nights will be on the 2nd Wednesday of the month throughout the season, subject to the weather.
The club will have hot dogs, hamburgers, buns and all the fixings, chips, and bottled water. Hot dogs are $1, and hamburgers are $2. Please bring cash!
The Scio Flyers were featured in the Scio Township's quarterly newsletter, mentioning the UAS4STEM program and giving a nice plug to our Wednesday training sessions.
Remember our last "From the Hangar" story? What’s on your workbench? Whether it’s a quick assembly tip or a full build log, we want to see it. Submit your project summary and a few photos to be featured in the next Flight Log!
March 1 has long come and gone and we still have a few members with outstanding dues. Please visit the membership page for payment options and instructions.
